ABOUT CARA ROMERO GALLERY & PHOTOGRAPHY
Founded in 2022, Cara Romero Gallery is a contemporary art gallery located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, near the Plaza and Railyard district at 333 Montezuma Avenue, Unit #5. The gallery functions as both the primary exhibition space for photographer Cara Romero and a platform for contemporary Indigenous artists working across photography, sculpture, sound, and mixed media.
The gallery presents a rotating program of exhibitions that foreground rigorous, artist-driven practices and engage questions of identity, sovereignty, land, and contemporary lived experience. Romero’s cinematic, color-rich photographs anchor the program, alongside projects by artists whose work expands, complicates, and challenges dominant art-historical narratives.
As the gallery’s program evolves, Cara Romero Gallery is committed to representing artists whose practices are conceptually grounded, materially ambitious, and in active dialogue with the present.
The gallery supports artists at multiple stages of their careers and works closely with institutions, curators, and collectors to place work thoughtfully and sustainably.
Cara Romero Gallery operates through an artist-centered model founded in care, stewardship, and long-term relationships. As the only Native-woman-owned Fine Art gallery in Santa Fe—the space is dedicated to ethical representation, professional advocacy, and creating space for critical dialogue through exhibitions, publications, and programming.
Grounded in community while engaged in national and international conversations, Cara Romero Gallery advances contemporary Indigenous art as an important, living practice—one that is intellectually rigorous, culturally grounded, and deeply connected to the worlds artists inhabit and imagine.
