Mvskoke Cultural Community Garden

Mvskoke Cultural Community Garden Information

The Mvskoke Cultural Community Garden is a community gardening and learning space located on the campus of College of the Muscogee Nation in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. The garden provides an outdoor environment where students and community members can engage with sustainable agriculture, gardening practices and cultural connections to the land.

Developed as part of the college’s educational and community initiatives, the garden supports hands-on learning opportunities that promote environmental stewardship, food production and community wellness. The space also reflects broader efforts within the Muscogee (Creek) Nation to encourage healthy food systems and cultural knowledge related to plants and agriculture.

We also have a large pollinator garden installed by the Euchee Butterfly Farm. We also have a large gazebo/outdoor classroom.

RAISED GARDEN BEDS

The garden includes over 30 raised beds used for growing vegetables, herbs and other plants. Raised beds provide a manageable gardening environment for students and volunteers while supporting hands-on learning about soil health, planting techniques and seasonal crop care.

GREENHOUSE

A greenhouse on site allows plants to be cultivated in a controlled environment. This structure supports seed starting and plant propagation, helping extend the growing season and providing additional opportunities for educational programming related to greenhouse horticulture.

WALKING TRAIL

A walking trail winds through the garden area, allowing visitors to explore the site at a relaxed pace. The trail offers a simple way for students and community members to experience the landscape while learning about the plants and features within the garden.

POND

The garden also includes a pond, which contributes to the site’s natural setting and supports the surrounding ecosystem. Water features such as this help create a more diverse habitat environment and enhance the garden’s outdoor learning space.

STORAGE & SUPPORT FACILITIES

A storage shed is located within the garden to house tools and equipment used for gardening activities and maintenance. This facility supports ongoing garden programs and helps maintain the site for educational and community use.
