Sammy Jo Bird is an enrolled member of the Blackfeet tribe. Sammy was a member of the rodeo team at the University of Montana Western where she graduated in 2014 with a degree in horsemanship and business, and was a member of the College Rodeo Team. Sammy Jo Bird was given the name Deer Women by Chief Old Person of the Blackfeet Nation. “I relate my passion for painting to my love of the Rodeo world. Painting has allowed me to show in the art work the love and respect that I have for animals, and add the pride I have for my Native American culture to my paintings.”

“I use a lot of abstract, mix media, texture bright colors, mixing old style with new styles. I put a lot of my personality and imagination into my work and it is very personal. With any of the art I create, I have respect for the people that order it, the animals I paint, and the people that are receiving it.” Sammy can be visited at her studio 2 miles West of Cut Bank, MT.
