The Santa Monica Mountains Interagency Visitor Center is located in what was once the ranch stables of King C. Gillette Ranch. The stables were refurbished to make it a visitor center. The Center is jointly operated by the National Park Service (NPS), California State Parks, the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, and the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority. It serves as a hub for the NPS-managed Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.

In alignment with the Department of the Interior's sustainability goals, the building is the first “net zero” visitor center in the National Park Service and worked with the U.S. Green Building Council to qualify it as a LEED-certified facility.
