As a federally recognized Indian Tribe established by executive order in 1988 by the United States Government, the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians exercises the inherent sovereign right to self-government.

LOCATION

They are located in Madera County near Coarsegold, Ca. They have over 1,200 enrolled tribal members. In 2003, they opened Chukchansi Gold Resort Casino, located in Coarsegold. The Chukchansi people have always understood that strength comes from unity, from caring for one another and protecting the land that sustains them. Currently, they have over 800 acres total.

GOVERNMENT

The Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians Tribal Government is organized democratically and operates in accordance with the customs and traditions of the Chukchansi people. The Chukchansi Tribal Government comprises of a seven-memberTribal Council, and various Boards, Commissions, Corporations, and Committees. The Tribal Government’s primary decision-making authority is the Tribal Council, comprised of recognized tribal members 18-years of age and older.

The purpose of Tribal Administration is to carry out the day to day functions of the government and administer the various grant-funded and tribally-funded programs that benefit the community. Especially, the tribal members of the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians.

Tribal Programs and Departments include the Administration on Aging (AoA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Adult Education, the Enrichment Center, the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), Central California Development Fund (CCDF), the Library, Youth Activities, Fiscal, Grants, and Human Resources.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Chukchansi Crossing Fuel Station & Travel Center is located in Coarsegold, California. It is part of the tribe's broader economic development strategy and is situated near the Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino, which is also owned by the tribe.

In 2003, they opened the Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino which has over 1,800 slot machines, table games, restaurants, hotel and conference center.
