Community Introduction

The Quinault Indian Nation (QIN), known as the “People of the Cedar,” has lived amidst the majestic rainforests, rivers, and shores of the Pacific Northwest for thousands of years. Comprised of the Quinault and Queets Tribes and descendants of five other Tribes, QIN has preserved its culture, language, and traditions through deep ties to its ancestral lands and waters. Officially recognized in the Treaty of Olympia in 1856, the Quinault Reservation spans 208,150 acres, encompassing pristine rivers, lakes, and forests. This land is not only the foundation of their cultural heritage but also a source of sustenance and economic empowerment. From sustainable forestry to fishing for salmon and razor clams, the Quinault Indian Nation thrives by harmonizing modern enterprise with traditional practices. The Quinault people are renowned for their dedication to environmental stewardship, leading efforts to protect salmon habitats and restore coastal ecosystems. Their cultural richness is shared through vibrant storytelling, traditional art, and hospitality that welcomes visitors to discover their heritage.

A Breathtaking Landscape

The Quinault Reservation, located along the Olympic Peninsula, features an extraordinary variety of natural wonders. The temperate rainforest surrounding Lake Quinault is one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world, home to towering Douglas firs, western red cedars, and Sitka spruce. Visitors can explore the pristine shores of the Pacific Ocean, where the Quinault River meets the sea, or venture into the lush forests and rushing rivers that characterize this awe-inspiring region. Whether fishing in the glacial-fed Lake Quinault or hiking through moss-draped trails, the Nation's landscape provides endless opportunities for adventure and tranquility.
