People's Center Museum & Gift Shop Information

Opened in September 2002, the Karuk People’s Center is home to a museum, library, gift shop, Basketweaving classroom, archive, and the Karuk Language Program Office.

The People’s Center is committed to maintaining an active schedule of public programs for the purpose of increasing public awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the centrality of Karuk art, history, and culture in our lives

Our  Museum is dedicated to the study, practice, collection, and display of the     art and culture of Karuk people. We curate exhibits to tell a story,  provide education, and promote Native interpretations of Native American art, practice, and development. Additionally, the Museum is home to a  community library, whose collection includes a range of books devoted to:     California Indian Studies, Native American Studies, local history, children’s books, young adult books, and more.

Our exhibits feature items such as a dugout canoe, basketry, and ceremonial regalia that demonstrate Karuk peoples’ cultural continuity and innovation across time.

GIFT SHOP

Our museum-quality gift shop is proud to carry locally made art and gifts by Native artists. We are known for carrying seasonal items and a thoughtful mix of products for use, wear, and appreciation. We have jewelry, apparel, mugs, dishware, tshirts, keychains, stickers and much more!
